In September 2018 my university offered the unique opportunity to join a trekking adventure to the Everest Basecamp. For me that sounded like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so I was eager to safe my spot and visit Nepal! But trekking to the EBC is not for everyone and spots were limited. In order to become part of the crew we had to attend a mandatory meeting where the broad circumstances of the journey were explained. What is the culture like in the valleys and up in the mountains? What standard of accommodation could we expect? What is trekking in the Himalaya region like? Benjamin and Daniel, our very own tour guides, had plenty of personal experience in Nepal and shared many anecdotes urging our curiosity.

Getting the desired spot was a matter of luck. We wrote little cards with our name and field of study and awaited the draw.
I literally checked my emails several times a minute to get certainty if I have to go shopping for high altitude trekking or not.
Few days later it was fix. Between all excitement some nervousness came up. What equipment do I need? What preparation is necessary? Who else made the cut and joins in on this adventure?
To provide some guidance for you, in this blog post series I will share all the necessary information that helped me to be prepared for the Everest Basecamp Trek. I will start with the bare necessities like boots and backpacks and work all the way up to mental and physical preparedness for such journeys.
Stay tuned!
